This month's focus is on DREDGING...

Dredging Dredging is not just about taking care of fairways or waterways. Dike construction, land reclamation, beach nourishment, and artificial island construction are also significant elements of the dredging industry. Each of these projects require the use of a range of specialized support tools such as suction or cutter dredgers, lateral offloading boats, barges and crane-equipped pontoons. For all of these areas, high quality and productivity are major requirements but costs must also be taken into account.

This cost tradeoff moves the dredging industry to use leading-edge positioning techniques in order to ensure the highest possible return on investment. Since the availability of radio-electric positioning equipment on the market, systems such as SYLEDIS and AXYLE have been used extensively. More recently, the use of real-time differential GPS has been adopted, providing rapid project implementation and superior accuracy.

Precision demanding dredging activities require the centimeter accuracy provided by real-time kinematic GPS techniques. The techniques are commonly used for on-line tide compensation and gauge evolution during loading. You can save time while increasing accuracy with the use of GPS precision. The Magellan Professional AquariusTM dual-frequency receiver with LRKTM (Long Range Kinematic) technology provides astonishing performance for dredging applications.

When sub-meter accuracy is acceptable, the Magellan Professional SagittaTM with built-in HF data link provides differential GPS positioning for small-and medium- scale projects covering several tens of kilometers.

Magellan Professional offers a wide range of professional GPS solutions, ideal for Dredging.

3011 GPS Compass
The 3011™ is a low cost GPS compass suitable for many dredging, construction, offshore and hydrography applications. Thanks to the GYROSKY™ technology the unit provides accurate position and heading data, as well as providing pitch or roll information and accurate velocity computation.

ADU5
Setting a new standard for attitude determination and real-time positioning, the advanced ADU5TM from Magellan Professional delivers unsurpassed accuracy in a rugged, full-function system. ADU5 provides precise heading, pitch and roll along with three-dimensional position and velocities at a rate of up to 5 Hz for both static and dynamic platforms.

Aquarius
Aquarius® from Magellan Professional is the ultimate answer to the expectations of the rigorous and demanding world of Marine Surveying. With the dual-frequency LRK® technology, the standard for outstanding performance, you get fast, real-time centimeter-level positioning and fully operational radio link up to 40 kilometers. With LRK, you will be able to work at greater distances than conventional RTK. Aquarius also comes in a single-frequency version featuring KARTTM technique.

Aquarius2
Aquarius®² from Magellan Professional is the ultimate answer to the expectations of the rigorous and demanding world of marine surveying. With the dual-frequency LRK® technology, the standard for outstanding performance, you get fast, real-time centimeter-level positioning and fully operational radio link up to 40 kilometers. With LRK, you will be able to work at greater distances than conventional RTK.

DG14 Sensor
The DG14TM sensor from Magellan Professional, is a low cost, new generation, sub-meter GPS +SBAS receiver. The OEM board solution for high-end integration, DG14 incorporates signals from Satellite Based Augmentation Systems (SBAS), such as WAAS, EGNOS and MSAS,to provide sub-meter differential positioning. The two SBAS channels can be configured as two additional GPS channels offering a total of 14 GPS channels.

DG16 Sensor
The DG16TM sensor from Magellan Professional, is a low cost, new generation, sub-meter GPS+Beacon+SBAS receiver. The perfect single OEM board solution for high-end integration, DG16 incorporates signals from Satellite Based Augmentation Systems (SBAS), such as WAAS, EGNOS and MSAS, with an embedded beacon receiver to provide sub-meter differential positioning. The two SBAS channels can be configured as two additional GPS channels offering a total of 14 GPS channels.

Sagitta
The SagittaTM receiver from Magellan Professional is intended for small and medium-scale marine surveys for which position precision and ease of use are equally important. Thanks to its low weight and small form factor, it can easily be carried from site to site. Sagitta comes in two versions: single-frequency and dual-frequency. Its 16-channel GNSS differential core is housed in a single, versatile unit that can be combined with additional optional software or hardware to meet a variety of requirements: screen & keypad (TRM100), UHF or HF/MF radio ("U-Link" or "HM-Link" transmitter/receiver), and more.
